How web sites can help learn language:
We learn language by using it in 4 different ways; listening, reading, speaking and writing. Speaking and writing practice are more effectively accomplished in a live situation with a professional, experienced tutor, however you can supplement your program with listening and reading practice on your own with the proper tools.
By listening to and reading the target language, we observe and absorb the way to express ideas. We learn important vocabulary and usage rules. Unfortunately, very little time is spent on this in school in Taiwan where many teachers spend most of the time speaking Chinese, explaining grammatical patterns as if they were mathematical formulas. The web sites listed here are very useful tools for English learners to get more practice listening and reading.
